Brief Introduction to the College

    The College of Resources and Environment Science is a high-budget college of Hunan Normal University. Academics from four departments (geographical science, science of land resources, urban-rural planning and geographical information engineering) can join research teams from one or both of its institutes. These institutes are: The Environmental Research Institute, and the national Land Studies Institute. There are also 2 centers of applied research: The Institute for geographical Information Systems, and The Regional Social and Economic Development Research Institute. The Faculty (70 full-time members) includes an academician of the Euro-Asian Academy of Science, 18 professors and 30 associate professors (16 of them with PhD degrees). Studying now at the college are more than 700 full-time undergraduates and 100 full-time postgraduates. The college facilities include modern teaching venues and laboratories, and a library (over 30,000 volumes and 400 serials). The 4 undergraduate programmes are distinguished, one from another, by their particular emphasis: geographical science, geographical information systems, land resources and real estate management, management of resources，environment and urban-rural planning.
  The Geography program (Bachelor of Science) covers the fundamental theory, knowledge and methods of geographical science. Students are relatively competitive in the middle-school geography teacher market. Much success follows students who seek positions in research (notably educational research) and as geography workers.
